Tonight I released my first video piece through my company, A Crack in the Wall, a behind the scenes mini-doc shot at Different Fur Studios in San Francisco for the beautiful, prolific and talented Bird Call (Brooklyn, NY). Some shots from today’s video shoot for Bird Call at Different Fur Studios in SF. I feel so fortunate to be surrounded by such dedicated and creative people who inspire me and show me the importance of practicing your art, no matter what it is, for the sake of survival in this world that so often resists the creative mind.
The crew (Patrick Brown, Ben Bernardy, and Lindsey Cundiff) at Different Fur is amazing. Aside from being professional and on point, they are the most personable and enjoyable people to be around. This was my second time working with them, and I left feeling like family.
In the ritual of doing something repeatedly every day at the same time and place, one begins to find not just routine, but also the minute inconsistencies that pixelate our daily lives. Today was the third day of shooting Everybody Else in the studio, and right away I was struck by how different today was from yesterday. I don’t mean a qualified difference, just a noticeable one. The energy level was different, slower… The temperature was warmer… The guys were working on a different song, a new instrument… A slightly different dynamic. But in noticing this, I also realized how valuable it is TO show up every day, and that catching these small shifts is exactly what I am trying to do.
So…in the name of showing up…of doing the same thing at the same time every day…here are some shots from today’s session.
AJ & Carrick, discussing edits
AJ, how I left him, working on one of his songs (Carrick left early for Dodgeball).
As Everybody Else continues to make steady progress on the recording of their upcoming album, I’m more and more impressed with their professionalism, focus and flawless ability to create a hard-hitting album with the determined work of only two heads…stay tuned for more to come. Here are a couple pieces of today’s work…
